It's a heart-breaking song about a broken relationship she never thought would end. Taylor said it is a letter to someone saying these desperate, hopeless feelings after a break-up. Personally, this is the saddest song of Taylor for me, I can feel the pain she feels just by hearing this song, especially on 4:28 where I can hear her sob. She was crying while recording this song.

It's quite clear that this song tells about Joe Jonas, some of the reasons are:

• The 27 seconds into, which was the length of call duration when Joe broke up with her through the phone 

• The other prove is its hidden message Forever and Always (it was a song for Joe on her previous album).  

• The lyrics "I ran off the plane, That July 9th the beat of your heart, It jumps through your shirt, I can still feel your arms" reflected when Taylor flew to Dallas on July 9th 2008 to attend Jonas Brother's concert.

• "Never thought we'd have a last kiss, Never imagined we'd end like this", everyone knows Taylor was so in love with Joe, some even said he was her real first love, and she never thought their relationship would end, especially in a harsh way.

• "I'm not much for dancing but for you I did", Taylor was seriously not into dancing that time, but Joe loved to see her dance so she did it for him although she thought it was awkward.

Aside from the fact that she wrote it for Joe, this song also has a deep meaning through the "And I hope the sun shines and it's a beautiful day, And something reminds you, you wish you had stayed, We can plan for a change in weather and time, I never planned on you changing your mind" lyrics, she wishes he'll be happy and have a beautiful life, she also wishes he'll miss her that he regret his decision of leaving her.
